A Lieutenant Colonel in the military, and eventually the leader of Rogue Squadron, Jaina is a warrior in every way. Struggling against darkness of her own, she nevertheless was named the Sword of the Jedi and was the person to hunt down her brother turned Sith Lord Darth Caedus.

That's nonsense."❞ Raised from youth to be a special operative for Emperor Palpatine, Mara was a top notch Force assassin and spy, who was compelled to follow the Emperor's final order after his death - to kill Luke Skywalker. However, things didn't turn out that way, and she grew to not only respect Luke, but to be redeemed and train as a Jedi and eventually marry him. A proud, tough woman on the outside, Mara is capable of deep compassion for those who earn her loyalty, but tends to have a sarcastic, dark sense of humor due to her experiences.		» Tenel Ka Djo JEDI KNIGHT/QUEEN OF HAPES ❝"My lineage is tainted by generations of bloodthirsty, power-hungry tyrants. I am not proud that I was born to the royal family of Hapes. I do not wish my friends to know that I am heir to the throne, because I have done nothing to earn it, choose it, or deserve it."❞ Born a princess of the venomous Hapes Consortium, Tenel Ka identified more strongly with the traditions of her mother's people, the Dathomiri witches, often seen as a barbaric clan of rancor-riding Force users. Trained as a Jedi in her youth, she kept the truth of her royal lineage secret from her fellow Jedi, which included Jaina - and her future lover Jacen Solo. Tenel Ka was forced to become Queen of Hapes eventually against her own wishes, and had a secret daughter with Jacen, turning against him when he became Darth Caedus. Incredibly serious, she comes off as almost entirely humorless, and has sported only one arm ever since Jacen accidentally cut off the other in their youth. As Queen, she became harder, more unyielding, and colder by necessity.

She believed that order could only be restored to the galaxy by implementing a strong handed new Dark Lord, and she conspired with the fallen Jedi Vergere to create a new Sith Lord and help them ascend to the galaxy's throne. They set their sights on Jacen Solo and she was instrumental in his subsequent temptation and fall, guiding him to become Darth Caedus.		» Boba Fett (FANDOM) ❝Everyone dies. It's the final and only lasting Justice. Evil exists; it is intelligence in the service of entropy. When the side of a mountain slides to kill a village, this is not evil, for evil requires intent... There is no greater good than Justice; and only if law serves Justice is it a good law... He agreed to train Jaina Solo in Mandalorian techniques to aid her in killing her brother, Darth Caedus. Irreverent, cunning, and callous, Fett nevertheless carries a strong sense of justice, moral obligation, and a code of honor.

	» Corran Horn JEDI MASTER/CORELLIAN PILOT ❝Absolutely not. You're not going to the dark side on my watch. Do it on Luke's.❞ Corran's been a lot of things - ranging from a Corellian Security Force investigator to a Rogue Squadron fighter ace, eventually embracing his family heritage to become a Jedi Master in the New Jedi Order. A highly skilled pilot, Corran values his family greatly and was at first uncertain about becoming a Jedi, because he felt like it would involve giving up a lot of his personality. Very competitive, proud, and with a wry, sometimes irritable sense of humor, he's managed to develop his determination and analytical way of approaching situations into great benefits to the Jedi Order.		» Han Solo CANON OR EU FLAVOR ❝He was a headshot waiting to happen.❞ The consummate scoundrel, Han Solo was an orphanturned Imperial military officer who broke from service when he saved the life of a Wookiee prisoner who would become his best friend and co-pilot. Becoming an ally of the Rebel Alliance in their fight against the Empire, he met his future wife Leia Organa, and they eventually had a family... Before which point canon and the EU diverge quite a bit, but his life sucks either way, pretty much.

[ She settles into the pilot's seat, flicking switching for pre-flight procedure. They can't take off until Chewie comes aboard, but she can at least prime the engines. ]

You look good in that chair.

[ Despite her efforts to suppress it, a smile crept through on Rey's face. She pressed her lips together to try and hold it back, but eventually, her eyes found Mara's and it broke wide. She glanced away again quickly and out the front window to make sure they had a clear path.

She was spared finding an answer by the lumbering sound of Chewie's weight hitting the cargo ramp, and she looked up quickly. ]

Chewie! [ She braced her hands on both pilot and copilot's seat backs and pushed her way back to find him. ] Where have you been?! We've been trying to take off for hours!

[ Exaggeration seemed to be a good means of communicating with Chewie, she had learned, and he was warbling a retort in shyriiwook moments later. ]

Mara's already here, she's in the cockpit! We've been waiting for you.

[ A furred hand flapped in her direction dismissively as Chewie clambered up towards the cockpit to find Mara. ]

Long time no see, Big Guy. [ it's an emotional moment, and while the smile on her face is genuine joy at seeing him again, it's muted, a recognition of the bittersweetness of what is missing from this reunion.

or who. ]

[ Rey recognizes a moment too late that she has no place in this reunion, that her sense of loss over Han is not comparable to theirs. She lowers herself into the pilot's seat without a word, excusing herself from their midst while Chewie lets out a warbling yell in greeting that sounds just a little sad.

He gestures with the crate that he holds to the copilot's seat beside Rey, urging Mara to take it so that he can instead load the cargo. ]

[ she lets him go now, squeezing his arm once, and sliding into place. ] How's he doing?

[ The shrug that answered her could only be interpreted poorly, mingled with a self-professed lack of understanding that came from their short time together. Still, as she eased into the position of pilot, readying the craft for departure, she found a more articulate way to put it. ]

He keeps going. From what I understand, that's hard enough. He owed Han a great deal. I think where he comes from, that's a bond that transcends death. He doesn't know what to do with it now.

[ she considers that for a moment, before saying quietly: ] Yes, he does. [ clearly, it had passed onto han's family, something that was also important in wookiee culture.

that was, after all, why he would be here ]

[ She looks over, perplexed by the suggestion for a long time. When it finally begins to sink in, she grows uncomfortable with the emotional weight of the realization right as it dawns on her, and she quickly turns her attention back to the instrument panel. ]

Do you remember how to fly this thing?

I think I can manage. Just like riding a hoverbike, isn't it? [ her comment may not inspire much confidence, but the easy way she starts flicking switches probably does ]

Something like that.

[ She's uneasy at first—enough that she sits forward to take lead and flip the pre-flight checklist of her own gauges, and in doing so, bumps into Mara's hands as they try to set about the same task. With Chewie, Rey had developed a pattern. It seemed she had no such effortless chemistry with her mother. ]

Sorry.

[ her hand lingers there for a moment, even after rey retracts hers, as though she's touched a hot stove.

her own daughter, uneasy about her touch. she has no one to blame but herself for it, at least. ] It's alright. [ she keeps her voice even as she goes back to finishing firing things up ]

[ The lack of synchronicity shines a floodlight on their time apart, on the abandonment that separated them all that time and made them strangers to one another but for the loss of Han, and the stubbornness of her father, Mara's ... Rey realized then she didn't know.

She waits until they're in hyperspeed to ask, well off the surface of the planet and at cruising altitude and speed. ]

What was Luke to you?

[ she resists the urge to suck in a breath at the question. it's a fair one to expect, but also the worst one to start off with.

so is lying, probably. ] Name it, and the answer is probably yes. At one time or another.

[ It seems like the kind of non-answer one gives when they don't want to answer. rey goes silent for a while, debating honoring that decision. it at least contextualizes some of her own suffering: they hadn't come looking for her, but it sounds like mara and luke hadn't gone looking for each other, either, to be fair. ]

Sounds complicated. [ she's never cared for complicated unless she's talking about machines. ] What about now?

[ not a bad question, really. and one she's not sure she has a solid answer for either. ] He's someone I'll always care about. But just because we care about someone doesn't mean we accept all their decisions.

Or can live with them ourselves.

You make it sound like this is Luke's fault.

[ At least using his name so frequently establishes early and firmly that she won't be calling Mara "Mom" for a while. ]

It was no one's fault, and all our faults, all at once. But there's no use in playing the blame game forever. Decisions were made, and we can't change them now.

[ That much, she can agree with. It takes such little struggle to concede that point, in fact, that she has to wonder if such stern focus is an inherited trait. She decides not to puzzle too long on it; after all, the years they ought to have spent together are long gone. There's no reclaiming what they'd lost, either.

Stern and focused. ]

General Organa, Luke, they won't talk about why either.

I suppose we all carry our share of guilt. And our share of might-have-beens.

[ She can't help wondering how she factors into those. There's a metallic tang in her mouth, leftover bitterness to answer the dissatisfaction she feels in meeting her mother out of necessity, in lacking all swelling emotion. They were strangers. The First Order had cost them anymore more. ]

General Organa chose to fuel a fight with hers. [ But Luke ran away, and she has no concept of what Mara might have been doing all these years. ]

General Organa has a lot of her father in her. [ it's said with a very strange tone, almost darkly amused, and she seems to glance at rey out of the corner of her eye for a moment, as if measuring something in her ]

[ The rebellion leader? She only knew of Bail Organa by reputation, but—

She glances over and realizes that she's missing something. Her puzzled expression speaks for itself, but she seems to just let it pass. There's a lot this woman's life, her mother's life, that she doesn't and won't understand. ]

And what have you been doing in that time, all the way out here? [ "What do I have in me," she really asks. ]

What I do best. [ there's a beat before she continues. her ways have never been leia's, the nature of their approaches almost entirely contrary but that was what always made them work.

it was unfortunately also what had made her a valuable asset to darth vader, who also tended to have leia's straightforward approach. ] Not all wars are won on the surface of things.

Maybe you haven't noticed.

[ She leans back and looks over at Mara, frowning. ]

This war's not being won.
